Poka

An online multiplayer take on Kadi, the beloved Kenyan card game. Spring Boot streams game state over RSocket to an Angular front end, with Redis keeping in-flight games alive across redeploys. Past 1,600 players, 1,190 of them in a single day. Card rules that once lived in three disagreeing implementations now sit in one server-side engine behind 111 tests. Operated solo on Oracle Cloud.

Every project runs from first brief to live, covering release, Dockerised deployment, domain and TLS on Linux servers. Faults get diagnosed across application, database and hosting layers, then explained in plain language. Increasingly that includes AI-assisted features built on Spring AI and retrieval-augmented generation.

Shipped and supported digital banking platforms serving 65+ banks across 20+ countries. Embedded on-site at CIB Bank and SBM Bank as the engineer keeping live core-banking channels healthy, from root-cause analysis through to deploying the fix. Built Spring Boot services and 20+ production APIs wired into everything from national ID registries to payment gateways, earning a promotion from Spring Boot Developer to Full Stack Engineer along the way.

Built the payments backbone for a streaming platform serving Africa and its diaspora.
